The thing that homeowner always think and think about it in the house decoration is” What color is best for my house? But there is a thing that many people don’t know or know but ignore it is chemicals in the colors.

Color that we use to paint the house have the four major components is binder agents, pigments, solvents and additives. When they were combined together, color will have the property that its color is colorful and stick the material well. Moreover, chemical that makes the color always beautiful and durable is lead that tattered together with color dust when the time past. It is dangerous to respiratory and alimentary system directly; especially children that alimentary system can absorb lead more than adult up to 50% and may be damage the brain to be disabled permanently

Lead is categorized in VOCs is the chemical that evaporate easily and pollute the air. The property of lead increase the level and sticking of color and make the color be colorful. The more colorful and bright, the more contaminated of lead in color. Lead is not only used in house color industry, it is also used in other industries such as automotive or cosmetics such as many lipsticks are contaminated by lead too.

 World Health Organization (WHO) has survey and found that color for building both interior and exterior including lacquer have a contamination of lead in large amount. So, it must defined the VOCs to be safety quality by

  • Colors for building must have Green Seal Standard GS 11 and GS 03

  • Wood lacquers must have South Coast Air Quality Management District Rule 1113

So, to choose the color which safety, must see from label and the message that defined safety without leads. It’s absolutely that it will be expensive but for your good health, this price is worth to pay too.
